Attacks on Mueller’s Investigations?

If there is nothing to be guilty of or embarrassed by i.e. connections, collusion, wrong doing etc. in the run up to and the 2016 election, then why is there such to do, hoopla, denial and vitriolic organized effort to stop, discredit or fire those conducting the investigation? With their oh so knowing expressions that there is nothing to find, wouldn’t it make more sense to just quietly let it all fall on its face fail and then after achieving some absolution when nothing is found just gracefully say voila, it is over.

So why all the ruckus? Why so much noisy contentious effort to stop it? Would someone, please explain this puzzlement to me?
