REMEMBER OUR MARCH MEETING!!! Ruth Micklem to Speak at March 21st Meeting

On March 21st, honoring Women’s History Month, Rappahannock Indivisible –We the People

Open Meeting will host a talk by Ruth Micklem, Community Engagement Coordinator and Project Manager for the VA Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance.

Micklem will give an overview of the recent history of gender-based violence, the cost of sexual and domestic violence, the policy changes over the past 25 years and other efforts to reduce and eliminate sexual and domestic violence and what citizens can do to address this issue. She will discuss current initiatives to address sexual violence including the #metoo movement.

Micklem has over 30 years of experience working in the field to end sexual and domestic violence here in VA. She has been employed in several domestic violence agencies throughout VA, served for 19 years as the Co-Director for the VA Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance in Richmond with a primary focus on policy reform, worked in the Northern Neck as Program Director for The Haven Shelter and Services and now coordinates a federal grant on Improving the Criminal Justice Response for VA.

The March 21st meeting will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the

Rappahannock, 366 James Wharf Road, White Stone. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. All members of the community are welcome to participate.
