Bratton to Discuss the 2020 Census at March 20th Meeting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 10, 2019 Rappahannock Indivisible—We the People will discuss the 2020 census at its monthly open meeting on March 20. Alex Bratton, Program Manager of the Virginia Civic Engagement Table, will be talking about why a fair and accurate count matters to the nation and to the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. The VCET points out that funding for roads and schools, creating accurate legislative districts, and other issues are directly tied to census results. Bratton will offer suggestions on how local residents can work to ensure that every Virginian gets counted. Bratton and the VCET work to help Virginians learn how to use their individual and communal voices to help the state make systemic changes toward improving the lot all its residents. Ensuring an accurate census is part of that effort.

Alexandria Bratton is the Program Manager for the Virginia Civic Engagement Table. After spending nearly 2 years as a community organizer for one of Hampton Roads leading black integrated voter engagement, civic involvement and leadership development work organizations and over 5 years of experience as a program coordinator for an area school division, Alex knows what is takes to work and communicate with diverse communities of people in order to build strong and lasting relationships. Since a young age, Alex has been heavily involved with the political process and being actively engaged in the communities she has lived in. Although her educational background is in the STEM field and Leadership Development, she accredits her knowledge learned in those disciplines and her life experiences has allowed her to be the versatile individual she is today. Alex truly believes that members of the community are the backbone any change that is needed, it just takes identifying how everyone will work together to get the job done.

The meeting will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, at 366 James Wharf Road in White Stone, beginning at 7 p.m. As is true every month, the Fellowship allowing Rappahannock Indivisible to use its meeting room does not represent endorsement of candidates or positions taken by Rappahannock Indivisible.
