Lobby Day-Feb. 7th

JOIN US! Members of Rappahannock Indivisible—We the People (RI-WtP) invite community members to join them in Richmond for a Lobby Day on February 7th. Kristi VanAudenhove, speaking for the group, said “The mission is primarily educational and an opportunity to see the General Assembly at work, but it is also an opportunity to do some direct citizen lobbying if there is an issue folks would like to speak with their legislators about.”

Following a briefing and continental breakfast at the offices of the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance, individuals will visit with their legislators in the Pocahontas Building. Visits with Delegates and Senators need to be scheduled in advance.

Since issues move quickly at this time of the year, the group is not suggesting specific topics at this time. But among the bills currently on the docket are several affecting redistricting, suspensions of drivers’ licenses, employment discrimination against pregnant women, devices to increase the rate of firearms discharge, gender-specific crimes, the Equal Rights Amendment, and speed limits on Route 3.

A list of bills being brought before the Legislature will be available on the RI-WtP website, rappahannockindivisible.org Following the legislators’ meeting, the group will gather in the gallery to observe the House of Delegates floor session and then move back to the Pocahontas Building to observe the Senate Courts of Justice Committee meeting.

The group requests those who wish to attend to RSVP to rappahannockindivisiblewtp@gmail.com or make direct contact with the group’s coordinator, Diana Jamison at belleleven@verizon.net or via phone 804-761-3991.
